POWERFUL CARDS

Countess DeLapore

To the surprise of those few who ascend, there is an entire portion of the Tower that looks like a Ronnellan mansion. Paintings adorn the walls, wooden banisters twist into the darkness, and the sound of lilting music flows through the halls. Governed by Countess DeLapore, one must abide by the rules of polite society to be acceptable, for cracks in any mirror will not do, especially when they reveal a side of you that should not be seen.

Gideon Insurgent Prodigy

A prodigy of the Academy of Mystic Arts, Gideon was expelled for his unethical works. He believed that to truly understand mortality, we needed to disassemble and build upon the mortal form. The Lord of Luster provides subjects for him to work on within the Tower’s vast laboratory, which result in a plethora of grotesque inventions and experiments. An incredible mind unbound by moral boundaries can achieve truly wondrous things.

Hortuk Risen Dreadnought

Defeated at the gates of Raneko, Hortuk fled, mortally wounded. Here he was found by Gideon who miraculously was able to bring Hortuk back. But he is not the same as the Bloody Lion who fought on the fields of Evadora. Dark, brooding, and disturbingly silent, the juggernaut Sovereign looks over the dungeons, where those “reconstructed” like he lay in wait, ready to defend the Tower, its Lord, and pave the way for the new world.

Levicus Lupine Preacher

The Tower of Dread’s chapel is dedicated to the Ley of Luster, the great word of the new world. The gods have proven useless against the new threat, but the Lord of Luster has created a paradise. Under the preaching of the Sovereign Levicus, those who flock to the Ley of Luster learn to control the beast within, taming it, embracing it, becoming one with it. All are invited to join the clergy, but those who spurn the Ley of Luster’s teachings face the wrath of the pack.

Narcilla, The Huntress

The Pursuers stalk the Dreadwood forests surrounding the Tower, keeping the mindless Dread at bay, as well as any unwelcome visitors. Anyone who tries to breach the walls are tracked down and welcomed as friend, or disposed of as foe. This group is led by the Sovereign Narcilla who stands as the first hurdle the Band of the Wolf must overcome if they wish to enter the tower.

Servilia Fettered Wight

Reality is not fluid in the Tower, distorting to span fields of graves and desolate tombs that imprison souls bound to serve the Lord of Luster. This is the hollow fate of those who pledged themselves to the Fallen God Thaeriel. The worship of the Light Domain and Thaeriel were once thought to be the same thing, but time would tell a different story dooming his most faithful when he fell from godhood. Bound by their oath, the Thaeric faithful became withered husks, devoted to serving and protecting their lord in life and death. Such is the fate of Servilia, Thaeriel’s most devout.

The Dread Lord

After centuries of twisting his mind as a god and a mortal, the Dread now has its champion. Thaeriel has become an unrecognizable beast, a Dread Lord masquerading as the Lord of Luster. He walks amongst the people in human form, the true image of a hero, a promise of a new world hiding his bestial intentions. From the top of the Tower, the extent of his fall can truly be seen, and it is from here, Thaeriel works the Dread’s plan to corrupt Faenar. He just needs time.

Overview

A shadow has fallen upon Eucos.

The Story

A shadow has fallen upon Eucos. The Dread has swept through; nowhere is safe. Yet one place offers absolution, a single Tower grown in a barren land. Ruled by the Lord of Luster and his Sovereigns, it is said to offer sanctuary, providing shelter to those the Gods failed.

Yet those who enter do not come back.

Led by Eiko, the Band of the Wolf believes Thaeriel – the one responsible for the Dread menace – awaits at the top of the Tower. And as they stand at the fringes, staring at the ungodly structure that rises from the dense wood below, it is easy to believe.

Finally, the Young Wolf speaks.

“Hunters! You have seen what the Dread has done to Eucos, it cannot be left unchecked! The one responsible resides at the top, but we must fight our way to it. Who will join me as we take on these self-proclaimed “Sovereigns”? Who will join me to put an end to this tyranny?”

“Give me your steel. Join me, and together we can take back Eucos!”

Overview

The Dread Lord strikes.

The Story

The Dread Lord strikes. In bloody fury he makes one last attempt at the one who dared challenge him, the wolf who defied his will. Eiko levels her blade, its steel awash with the colors of the six Domains, and strikes upwards, straight through the chest of the one known as Thaeriel.

An ancient cry is heard, a collective screech that echoes across Faenar, erupting from the chests of all manner of Dread across the entire continent. The Tower itself shifts and creaks, the center of its power no longer concrete. The shadow flees, shunning the light of the Domains that presses against it. And in a brief moment, Eiko sees his face, the face of the Fallen one, the god that became a man. His eyes are sad but clear, as if a great veil has been lifted. He stares deep into Eiko’s and she sees his pain, his helplessness in the face of something far too great, too heavy, for him to fight. And then they harden. Once again rage, white hot rage, emerges.

“You cannot stop this, we are the same, you and I.” His eyes flash, and she feels the truth of it, before he bursts into shadow.

Strong hands grab Eiko. She begins to resist until she realizes they are the hands of a friend. “We need to move, the tower collapses!” Reios shouts. But it is all a blur, the sound of dragon wings, the cries of those inside, the endless black shadow that takes to the sky.

The Tower is no more; crumbling into dust. Upon the backs of dragons, the Band of the Wolf watch as the Dread flees to somewhere distant, across the seas from whence it came.

Next time, for there will be a next time, they will be ready.
