How to level up your rank
.webp)
Most experienced combatants should be very familiar with the ranked ladder by now, but as a quick refresher:
- You get win points for every win you get on the ranked play ladder. Get enough and you rank up and can start facing more elite competition.
- For every loss you get on the ladder, you get loss points. Accumulate enough of them and you are knocked backwards.
- Each rank has a safety line. If you get too many losses while your win point progress is passed that line, you will have to restart progression in that rank. If you lose too many and you are not passed the safety line, you will derank to the previous level. Try not to do that.
- Reach a new rank and your win and loss points reset for that rank.
Mythic (ranked 12) is your goal, and it is where the most elite of the elite play. Each rank brings better rewards from Daily Play to Earn, but much tougher competition.
Don’t be fancy
A lot happens at the higher ranks. Many players start to dig in with their most reliable, highest shine decks. Keeping Mythic rank is not easy, even for the best players, and the rewards are much higher.
But you don’t need to worry about that until you can join the elite. If your goal is to climb the ladder, there is only one thing you should be worried about, and that is winning as many matches as you can. Higher shine values in your deck provide you better rewards when you win, but so does higher rank, so first and foremost, bring your best deck. Spending a day or 2 with a lower shine deck that has a better win rate will unlock rewards for you that will pay off long term.
Don’t experiment. Don’t take shiny cards over higher power level ones. Don’t feel bad when you crush your opponent. They are trying to knock you down, don’t let them.
Play what you know
There is no best deck in Gods Unchained and there never will be. Each God has multiple archetypes, and each of these has good and bad matchups. Some decks have natural counters to others, some are well rounded with some ability to win any match even if it is an uphill climb. You cannot predict who your opponent will be, so rest assured you will hit bad match ups. You will lose some.
Instead of trying to predict what you will face up against in any match, just focus on yourself. You cannot predict what your opponent will have or use, but you can make sure you are playing your best deck that you are most comfortable with. A deck on paper that has a better average win rate than what you normally play may seem like the better deck to play, but unless you know how to pilot it you will suffer avoidable losses that well outweigh the small percentage advantages you may get with a different list.
Player skill is still going to be the thing that wins you the most games, both knowing your deck and knowing how to play it against different match-ups. Knowing what to mulligan for, knowing when to windmill slam a two mana card on turn one with your bag of tricks point, and knowing which cards you don’t want to see are all signifiers of a player who knows their tools. Knowing when to take a risky play or knowing what your outs are in a specific scenario are what separate the best players from the rest.
Specialize now and branch out later. The game is big and you may very well find a deck you like more in the future, but for now you need to focus on your goal. Climb the ladder and get admitted to the Conquest arena. Be ruthless, because your opponents are doing the same.
See you in the arena
The doors of the arena will only open for the best mortals. They need to provide a good show for the crowds after all. If you think you have what it takes to beat the competition, we welcome you to the party.
