Introduction
Gods Unchained is embarking on a journey by migrating from Immutable X to Immutable zkEVM. This move is designed to enhance scalability, and open the door to expanded interoperability with other games and ecosystems in Web3. Below, you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about this migration, covering everything from high level timelines to technical details and beyond.
We will continue to work on providing more details with a locked in date for migration soon, players will get plenty of notice in regards to this to give enough time to prepare.
Migration Overview
Q: What is the reason behind the migration to zkEVM?
A: The migration to Immutable zkEVM is intended to future-proof Gods Unchained, ensuring scalability and unlocking advanced smart contract capabilities. It also positions the game within a broader Web3 gaming ecosystem, fostering potential interoperability and delivering an improved experience for all players.
Q: What new functionality will GU gain?
A: With the move to Immutable zkEVM, Gods Unchained is exploring Improved crafting experiences, Passport integration, A more diverse economy of assets.
Moving funds onto zkEVM will be simpler via various bridges (Squid and Layerswap) and fiat on-ramps (Transak). These enhancements aim to streamline player interactions, improve accessibility, and expand the in-game economy for a richer, more dynamic experience.
Q: What will happen to assets/cards during the migration?
A: All Immutable X assets will be migrated automatically to Immutable zkEVM by default.
Q: What is the ETA for the migration?
A: We are making progress with our plans and will share timelines soon. Players will receive plenty of notice to understand exactly what’s happening.
Q: Will there be a detailed rollout plan?
A: Yes, a comprehensive rollout plan will be provided to guide users and ensure a smooth transition to Immutable zkEVM.
Technical & Fees
Q: How will this affect interactions with GU’s API? Will it solve deck peaking? Will the game client improve?
A: This migration does not solve deck peaking issues. The team is, however, actively working on a separate solution to address that in the future.
Q: What will the transaction fees be on zkEVM?
A: A small gas fee per transaction in $IMX will be required when using MetaMask or any EOA (Externally Owned Account). Transactions made with Passport will offer a gas-free experience.
Q: Will there be gas fees for every transaction?
A: For every transaction using an EOA wallet, users must pay a small gas fee in $IMX. In the future, users with Passport accounts will enjoy a gas-free experience for transactions.
Q: Will trading fees remain at 9%?
A: All trading fees will remain at 9%.
Q: Will the migration allow adding new metadata to cards (e.g., first mints)?
A: NFTs will retain the same metadata after migration, including the same tokenID and Proto.
Q: Will assets in externally owned accounts (EOAs) be readable by the game?
A: Yes. Assets will be readable in the same way they currently are for EOAs in-game.
Asset & Wallet Management
Q: How will assets be migrated?
A: All assets will be migrated to the same wallet they currently reside in.
Q: What happens to tokens (ETH, IMX, USD, GODS) already on Immutable X? Will they move to Immutable zkEVM automatically based on the wallet’s balance?
A: Not at this stage. Users must manually bridge these tokens. Layerswap supports bridging $GODS tokens from Immutable X to Immutable zkEVM, and ETH, USDC, and IMX bridging is already available.
Q: Will assets (cards, trinkets, and boards) be moved to the Passport wallet or stay in their original wallets?
A: All assets will be migrated to the same wallet they’re currently in.
Q: If they stay on the original wallet, do we need to link it to our Gods Unchained account?
A: No. All assets will automatically migrate to whichever wallet they’re in at the time of migration no extra linking is required.
Q: If assets will be moved to Passport by default, can players opt out and have them on an EOA?
A: No assets will be placed in a different wallet unless the user actively moves them there before migration. Passport wallets will not be available in the first migration phase.
Q: Can a player create a new Passport and move everything there?
A: In the first phase, the game will continue reading assets from EOA wallets, as it does now. If you choose to create a Passport account, you can link your MetaMask and then import assets via the import all utility or select specific ones to import.
Q: Will the migration affect plain cards?
A: No. This will not affect any plain cards in your collection.
Gameplay & Economy
Q: Will the migration impact support for renting assets via smart contracts or Passport integration?
A: Currently, Gods Unchained relies on community-built third-party solutions for asset renting. However, moving to zkEVM, which supports smart contracts, lays the foundation to potentially enable in-game asset renting in the future.
Q: Will the migration lead to in-game marketplace improvements?
A: We’re always looking to enhance the game’s features. Our in-game marketplace and store will undergo improvements once the foundational migration to zkEVM is complete.
Q: Will GU implement sealed products (e.g., chests as rewards, sealed pack distribution)?
A: The immediate focus is migrating existing assets. Afterward, we’ll consider sealed products, which the community has shown strong demand for this could foster a more vibrant in-game economy.
Q: What's 'Eucos Emporium'?
A: Eucos Emporium is a lore-inspired, upgraded in-game store for purchasing items and cosmetics. Over time, it will expand into a central hub for all purchases, aiming to create a fun, engaging ecosystem where players can explore and acquire assets.
Q: Will chests become tradable?
A: Yes! Chests will be tradable on the “Gods Unchained Cosmetic” collection contract.
Q: Will there be a collaboration with Guild of Guardians (GoG)?
A: Migrating to Immutable zkEVM opens more possibilities for cross-game collaborations, including with GoG. We could see something like “Guardians of Elderym,” for instance, given that lore connections already exist between the two universes.
Q: Will the migration be used as a marketing push?
A: Our first priority is a successful technical migration that safeguards gameplay and on-chain assets. Afterward, we’ll explore more marketing opportunities. One upcoming initiative is the Immutable Gems Questing platform, where players can complete quests to earn Gems.
Q: Will this migration improve the forge system (e.g., one-click forging)?
A: In the initial migration phase, the forge system stays as is. However, with the potential for smart contracts on zkEVM, we’re investigating more streamlined solutions for the future.
Immutable X & Future Implications
Q: Does this migration signal the deprecation of the Immutable X chain?
A: Gods Unchained is transitioning to zkEVM to align with a dynamic Web3 gaming ecosystem, aiming for long-term growth. This helps us build bigger and better experiences for players and the community, ultimately onboarding more players to the game.
Q: Is this part of a broader "onboarding move" for new players?
A: Yes. We want to continue growing and give players the ability to easily move and trade assets alongside top-tier games in Web3. Moving to zkEVM helps achieve that.
User Experience & Support
Q: Will there be sufficient notice/time for players to complete the necessary steps?
A: Absolutely. We’ll provide ample notice for any required steps to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Q: Will a new mobile app be developed to support the new ecosystem?
A: While we recognize player demand for a mobile-first approach, our current priority is ensuring a seamless migration. We’ll continue to explore broader app or mobile options in the future.
Q: How will user support be handled during and after migration?
A: Our team will remain active in Discord and through our standard customer support channels to assist with any migration-related questions or issues.
Q: Will there be additional Web2 features available through Google and Apple stores?
A: We frequently receive requests for additional Web2 integrations and will factor these into our future plans.
Q: What happens to cards on LootRush?
A: LootRush is a third-party service. We’re not yet sure if they’ll support Gods Unchained on zkEVM. They already support other titles, so we’ll keep you updated once we have clarity on their plans.
Q: Will GU partner with Altura to simplify the forge system and introduce closed packs?
A: We’re always open to partnerships that enhance player experiences, but we prefer to keep any specifics as a surprise for now.
